For more than 365 days now, friends and relatives of Jordan Smith have hoped some clue would be found, or some witness would come forward, to help her family find out more about her disappearance.

On the one-year anniversary of the 27-year-old going missing, her mother, friends and family held a candlelight vigil and planted a weeping cherry tree in her honor.

“I’m going to bring her home one way or the other, regardless of what that means,” her mother, Tracie Barbee, told WBTV. “I will bring her home.”

While Barbee still feels her loss, she wanted to devise a way to look to the future and remember Smith forever.

Smith's mother told WBTV the lack of progress in the case has left her angry. “This is just a way to kind of push forward, bring all these people together, make sure they know that I love them and I thank them and hopefully get some attention that law enforcement will go, ‘OK, this woman’s not going away.’ I’m not going away until I bring my daughter home.”

Smith was last seen in the Cabarrus County area on April 18, 2021.

Despite the lack of her daughter’s presence, memories can still bring a smile or tears to Barbee. Smith’s singing voice is something that always makes Barbee light up with joy. It’s also the driving force behind her desire to find her daughter.

The trials and tribulations of the past year have also inspired Barbee to advocate for other families whose loved one have gone missing.

Concord police said they’ve investigated leads in Concord, Kannapolis, Salisbury and Charlotte, but they still have no answers about what happened to Jordan Smith.
