City of Charlotte issued the following announcement on June 6.
The City of Charlotte Planning, Design & Development Department released the second draft of the Unified Development Ordinance (UDO) and a summary of key changes on Friday.
The UDO simplifies, consolidates and updates the regulations that guide Charlotte's development. It is a critical tool in implementing the community's vision for growth, as outlined in the adopted Charlotte Future 2040 Comprehensive Plan.
The second draft of the UDO incorporates feedback from several months of engagement with residents, stakeholder groups and the Charlotte City Council.
"With this release, continued engagement with the community remains vital to the success of this project aimed at updating and consolidating current ordinances," said Alyson Craig, the city's interim planning director. "I encourage the community to review the draft and provide comments as City Council will consider adoption later this summer."
UDO Next Steps
- June 3, 2022, through June 30, 2022: Open period for public comments.
- July 11, 2022: City Council public hearing.
- Aug. 15, 2022: UDO final draft release.
- Aug. 22, 2022: City Council vote to adopt the UDO.
Residents can review the UDO second draft process and share their input online at charlotteudo.org. Staff will provide a series of engagement opportunities over the next several weeks. A complete list of community engagement events is also available at charlotteudo.org.
UDO Supporting Documents: Charlotte Streets Map and Charlotte Streets Manual
The Charlotte Streets Map and the Charlotte Streets Manual are documents that support the streets, subdivision and infrastructure regulations in the UDO. They include information on street types, access management and driveway design, and transportation review for private land development projects.
First drafts of both documents were released last fall, followed by public engagement and a comment period. Second drafts of both documents are now available for comment at www.charlottenc.gov/smp.
