City of Charlotte Fire Department issued the following announcement on Sept. 5.
On Saturday, Sept. 17, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., Charlotte Fire will hold a firefighter application signup at Charlotte Fire Headquarters, 500 Dalton Ave, Charlotte, NC 28206.
Applications for firefighter positions with Charlotte Fire are open from Sept. 16 - 30.
At the event, interested candidates can visit Charlotte Fire headquarters and talk with firefighters and staff to answer questions about career opportunities.
Charlotte Fire's human resources team will also have computer stations available to apply for firefighter positions and assist in the process.
Several crews from Charlotte Fire will have fire apparatus and equipment on display including teams from hazardous materials, rescue, ladder, and an engine company. Firefighters will be able to answer any questions related to firefighting and the hiring process.
Interviews for firefighter positions with Charlotte Fire will be held Oct. 22 - 23 at the Charlotte Fire Training Academy, 1770 Shopton Rd., Charlotte, NC 28217.
On Oct. 24, the written exam will be held at the Grady Cole Center, 310 N. Kings Dr., Charlotte, NC 28204.

Minimum Eligibility Requirements
Candidates must meet minimum eligibility requirements to apply.
- Must be at least 18 years old.
- High school diploma or GED.
- Valid driver's license.
- Applicants with military service must have no less than an honorable discharge.
- Must meet the medical requirements outlined in NFPA 1582. Which means firefighters must have the agility and physical strength to do prolonged and arduous work under adverse conditions.
- This includes, but is not limited to, the ability to lift, move and maintain position on items (e.g., charged hoses) up to 90 pounds; push objects up to 25 pounds; pull objects from 25 to 50 pounds; and lift or pull victims weighing more than 150 pounds.
