In today’s challenging economic times, getting a $150,000 windfall sure would help a family get things done that they’d otherwise have to wait for.
Sixty-seven-year-old Thomas Pharr of Charlotte, and his wife, will use their recent Powerball winnings to do just that.
“We’ve been talking about renovating our house … lo and behold, this happens,” Pharr said, as reported by Fox 8 News.
Powerball is a national lottery game offered by 45 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
Pharr bought a $3 Powerball ticket for the Sept. 17 drawing. Four numbers were matched on the white balls for $50,000, then the 3X Power Play multiplier hit, tripling his total to $150,000.
“I had to look at it two or three times to double-check all the zeroes, and then I had my wife look at it,” Pharr told Fox 8 News. “We were surprised and excited.”
The Quick Pick ticket using Online Play on the lottery’s website is the way Pharr bought his winning ticket.
He said the most he had ever won previously was $40. Pharr claimed his prize last week, and after required federal and state tax withholdings, he received $106,516.
