CITY OF CHARLOTTE: Storm Water Services Takes Top Honors at APWA Conference

City of Charlotte issued the following announcement on Oct. 17.

The American Public Works Association (APWA) awarded Storm Water Services two top honors at its Stormwater Management Division Conference held in Winston-Salem, N.C. this month. Daryl Hammock, Assistant Manager, was awarded the H. Rooney Malcom Stormwater Professional of the Year Award and Storm Water Services' Cedars East Storm Drainage Improvement Project won the North Carolina Stormwater Project of the Year Award.

Hammock was honored for his exceptional leadership, knowledge, expertise, innovation, vision and contributions to the stormwater profession. "We are proud that Daryl has been honored with this prestigious award," said Kruti Desai, Storm Water Services Manager, who was at the awards ceremony to present the award. "Every day, I see Daryl's work ethic, professionalism and commitment to public service in all that he does. He is a dependable, knowledgeable leader who moves our organization, our city, and the stormwater profession forward."

North Carolina Stormwater Project of the Year winners display excellence in implementing stormwater projects successfully in cooperation with property owners, consultants, suppliers, and contractors. The Cedars East Storm Drainage Improvement Project, completed in late 2021, was constructed to repair and replace aging infrastructure, help reduce street and structure flooding, and address stream erosion to provide a more natural, stable stream system for residents in the area.

Matt Gustis, Engineering and Design Division Manager, Bob Jarzemsky, Engineering Program Manager, and Matthew Anderson, Senior Engineer, Surface Water Quality, accepted the award on behalf of the team, along with Davin Morrison who represented the partner engineering firm, STV, Inc.
