The Martinez family has coped with their daughter’s physical limitations for years, a task that is now a little easier thanks to a wheelchair-accessible van the family received on New Year’s Eve.
“From the bottom of our hearts, we thank everybody,” Israel Martinez, whose daughter, Dianelys Martinez, 20, relies on a wheelchair, told Queen City News. “Now we don’t have to struggle so hard. God bless.”
The gift was delivered courtesy of All Things Possible Medical Fundraising, a non-profit group that serves those in need in the Charlotte, North Carolina, area, according to Queen City News.
Dianelys has lived with Rett syndrome and Scoliosis since she was 5 years old. She can’t walk or talk, and she relies on her family for everything from basic care to transportation.
Wheelchair-accessible vans, like everything else, are more expensive these days, and finding a new one can be a challenge, but All Things Possible put out a fundraising call and the community came through.
“Vans cost more than they ever did before and they’re harder to find," said All Things Possible Executive Director, Lisa Sexton.
The agency has presented seven wheelchair-accessible vans to families in need, Queen City News reported.
