June 27, 2024 – The Charlotte Hornets today selected guard KJ Simpson from the University of Colorado with the 42nd overall pick in the 2024 NBA Draft. A 6-0 guard, Simpson earned First Team All-Pac-12 honors as a junior in 2023-24 after averaging 19.7 points, 5.8 rebounds, 4.9 assists, and 1.6 steals while shooting 47.5% from the field, 43.4% from beyond the three-point line, and 87.6% from the free-throw line.
Simpson was one of five players in the country to average at least 19.0 points, 5.0 rebounds, and 4.0 assists, ranking second in the Pac-12 in scoring, third in assists, and third in steals. He scored in double figures in 35 of his 37 games played, including a career-high of 34 points against Washington State, and tallied three double-doubles, one of which came during the first four rounds of the NCAA Tournament against Boise State.
Simpson earned Second Team All-Pac-12 honors as a sophomore in the 2022-23 season when he averaged 15.9 points, 4.3 rebounds, 3.8 assists, and 1.5 steals and ranked fifth in the conference for free-throw percentage; sixth for steals; seventh for scoring; and seventh for assists. He was also named to the Pac-12 Conference All-Freshman Team in the 2021-22 season.
