During Tuesday's practice, the Carolina Panthers experienced minor scuffles, which head coach Dave Canales used as teaching moments. "Great teachable moments right there," Canales said. He emphasized maintaining composure and avoiding unnecessary penalties.
Quarterback Bryce Young noted the importance of resolving conflicts quickly. "We want to clean some stuff up. We're still family at the end of the day," Young stated.
Veteran right tackle Taylor Moton was held out of practice, with Badara Traore stepping in for him. Additionally, Chandler Zavala replaced Damien Lewis due to shoulder soreness. The team is also without veteran tackle Yosh Nijman, who remains on the physically unable to perform list.
Canales praised the performance of backups like Zavala, Cade Mays, and Brady Christensen during camp. "It's great to see Badara Traore out there with the ones working at tackle," Canales remarked.
Running back Rashaad Penny was placed on the reserve/retired list after a conversation with Canales about his physical condition. "He just really felt like he wasn't himself and I had to respect that," Canales said.
Wide receiver Daewood Davis is expected to miss several weeks due to a thigh injury sustained Monday. Rookie receiver Tayvion Robinson has been signed to fill Penny's roster spot.
The Panthers are preparing for their Fan Fest practice at Clemson on Thursday night, which will serve as an intra-squad scrimmage. "We're going to go there as a team," Canales said.
Practice ended with a disputed play involving new wide receiver Deven Thompkins, highlighting the competitive nature fostered by keeping score during drills. "The thing that you'll learn about these competitors out here is it's just got to have a score, and all of a sudden, these guys just go crazy," Canales explained.
