The Panthers made last-minute roster adjustments before departing for New Orleans on Saturday. These changes included placing veteran tight end Ian Thomas on injured reserve, sidelining him for at least the next four weeks. Thomas has been out since a calf injury early in training camp and had already been ruled out for the season opener.
Additionally, the team waived cornerback Keenan Isaac, who was one of six waiver claims following roster cuts. Isaac spent the previous year with the Buccaneers.
To fill these roster spots, the Panthers signed tight end Feleipe Franks and defensive tackle Jayden Peevy to the active roster from the practice squad. Franks, a former University of Florida quarterback who transitioned to tight end with the Falcons, provides depth at his position as veteran Tommy Tremble is also unavailable this week. Peevy, who was on the practice squad last year, adds a sixth defensive lineman to the team.
The Panthers also promoted veteran running back Mike Boone and cornerback Lonnie Johnson from the practice squad for this week under standard elevations. Players can be elevated from the practice squad three times during a season. Boone and Johnson bring special teams capabilities to a young roster.
