The Panthers faced another setback Monday as one of their key players was injured during the loss to the Saints. Head coach Dave Canales reported that star defensive tackle Derrick Brown sustained a meniscus injury in his knee during Sunday's game and is seeking a second opinion to assess the severity.
Canales noted that Brown mentioned "soreness" last night and described increased discomfort this morning, prompting an MRI examination.
Brown, who recently participated in his first Pro Bowl last season, set a league record for tackles in a season by a defensive lineman with 103. The former first-round pick secured his future with the team through 2028 after signing a contract extension this offseason.
During Sunday's 47-10 defeat against the Saints, Brown played 60 out of 66 defensive snaps. Despite his absence, the team still has veterans A'Shawn Robinson and Shy Tuttle at the position, along with backups Nick Thurman, Jayden Peevy, and LaBryan Ray.
