The Charlotte Hornets have announced a significant trade, acquiring three second-round picks and three players in a deal involving the Minnesota Timberwolves and New York Knicks. The Hornets will receive guards Charlie Brown Jr., DaQuan Jeffries, Duane Washington Jr., and cash considerations. In return, they have traded the NBA Draft rights of center James Nnaji.

Hornets President of Basketball Operations Jeff Peterson stated, "The team has acquired three second-round picks, guard Charlie Brown Jr., guard DaQuan Jeffries, guard Duane Washington Jr. and cash considerations." This transaction marks the first time an NBA team has used the Room Exception rule from the 2023 Collective Bargaining Agreement to acquire players.

As part of this move, the Hornets waived guards Marcus Garrett and Caleb McConnell. Both players had participated in the summer league for Charlotte and were signed on September 11.

Charlie Brown Jr. brings experience from his tenure with teams like the Atlanta Hawks and Philadelphia 76ers. He played eight games last season with New York. DaQuan Jeffries has spent time with several teams including Sacramento Kings and Houston Rockets; he appeared in 17 games for the Knicks last season. Duane Washington Jr.'s experience includes playing for Indiana Pacers and Phoenix Suns, as well as a stint with KK Partizan in Serbia.

This offseason has seen the Hornets actively acquiring future assets, having secured six future second-round draft picks.
