Today, Senator Thom Tillis announced a significant allocation of $27 million in grants from the U.S. Department of Transportation for improvements at two major airports in North Carolina. Charlotte Douglas International (CLT) Airport is set to receive $15 million, while Raleigh-Durham International (RDU) Airport will benefit from a $12 million grant.

The funding for CLT is designated for replacing up to 16 passenger boarding bridges. At RDU, the grant will support the Terminal 2 Landside Expansion Program, which includes enhancements to the ticketing check-in/lobby, baggage claim areas, security checkpoint, and international arrival processing area.

Senator Tillis emphasized the importance of these projects: “CLT and RDU are cornerstones of North Carolina’s transportation system, and we must continue to invest in both to support their growth.” He added that this financial award would enhance passenger experiences at CLT and contribute significantly to RDU's expansion efforts.
