The Charlotte Hornets have announced a special halftime ceremony to honor their longtime public address announcer, Pat Doughty, known as "Big Pat." The tribute will take place during the team's home opener against the Miami Heat on Saturday, October 26. Big Pat passed away in July 2024 after nearly two decades of energizing games and fans with his enthusiasm.

The ceremony will feature members of Big Pat's family and include a video montage of his famous calls. A commemorative cell with Big Pat's image will be presented and later displayed at Spectrum Center. "While Big Pat won’t physically be with us at Spectrum Center this season, he will always be a very special part of the Hornets family," said Hornets Chief Marketing Officer Seth Bennett. "This will be a very special halftime ceremony for our team and fans, alike, as we remember Pat’s vibrant spirit and the passion and energy he brought to the arena each and every night."

An empty seat at the scorer's table where Big Pat once sat will remain open on Opening Night. For the rest of the season, a decal in his honor will mark the spot. Additionally, Hornets staff, select media members, including other NBA team announcers, will wear an 'in memoriam' lapel pin. Crew and Hive Entertainment members will wear wristbands.

Shawn Parker has been named as Big Pat's successor and is set to make his debut at Spectrum Center during the home opener. Tickets for the event are available at hornets.com.
