People often share pictures and videos of their Halloween costumes, but Brad Idzik has set a high standard. The Carolina Panthers offensive coordinator started his press conference by acknowledging those who gave him candy, then shared stories about his memorable costumes from childhood. One notable costume was when his grandfather created a table to make it appear as if Idzik's head was on a plate. Another favorite was when he dressed as a tree with squirrels made from paper mache, winning a fourth-grade competition.
Transitioning to football, the Panthers are preparing for Derek Carr to start as quarterback for the New Orleans Saints on Sunday. Carr, who missed three games due to an oblique injury, practiced this week in a limited capacity. Despite rookie Spencer Rattler starting the last three games, defensive coordinator Ejiro Evero stated that they are preparing for Carr.
Evero noted that the offense is more expansive with Carr, who brings experience and leadership to the field. In their first meeting, Carr completed 19 of 23 passes for 200 yards and three touchdowns without interceptions.
Changes in play-calling will also affect how the Panthers approach Sunday's game. Since Week 1, Saints offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak has been calling plays for eight weeks now, which means adjustments are necessary based on available game tape.
Panthers' offense aims to improve its deep ball game with Bryce Young focusing on longer completions during offseason training. Offensive coordinator Idzik highlighted Young's recent performance against the Broncos where he had ten completions over ten yards and suggested there's room for growth in downfield shots.
