Two former Carolina Panthers players, Steve Smith Sr. and Luke Kuechly, have been named among the 15 finalists for the Pro Football Hall of Fame Class of 2025. Wide receiver Steve Smith Sr., after three years as a semifinalist, advanced to the finalist stage alongside linebacker Luke Kuechly, who made it in his first year of eligibility.
Defensive end Jared Allen, who spent his final NFL season with the Panthers in 2015, also features on the list of finalists. For Smith, reaching this stage is significant due to previous competition at his position from Andre Johnson, Torry Holt, and Reggie Wayne over recent years.
Smith concluded his career with impressive statistics: 1,031 catches for 14,731 yards and 81 touchdowns. He ranks eighth all-time in receiving yards and twelfth in receptions. In comparison, Wayne recorded slightly more receptions but fewer yards than Smith.
Kuechly's achievements include seven All-Pro selections and seven Pro Bowl appearances during his eight-year career. His accolades are comparable to those of Patrick Willis, another linebacker whose career was similarly shortened by injuries.
Jared Allen remains a finalist for the fifth consecutive year. He holds the twelfth spot on the NFL's all-time sack list with 136 sacks.
The full roster of this year's finalists includes several returning candidates such as Willie Anderson and Antonio Gates. Notably absent this year is Rodney Harrison.
The Hall of Fame selection committee will meet before Super Bowl LIX to consider these modern-era player candidates. Up to five may be elected if they receive at least an 80 percent positive vote. Additionally, there are senior category finalists and others like coach Mike Holmgren under consideration separately.
The final class will be announced on February 6 during a broadcast from New Orleans.
