The Charlotte Hornets faced another setback in their final game of 2024, losing to the Chicago Bulls 115-108 in overtime. The Hornets have been struggling, with only one win in their last sixteen games. Despite a strong performance from Miles Bridges, who scored a season-high 31 points and recorded his third consecutive double-double, the team could not secure a victory.
Mark Williams contributed significantly with 20 points on perfect shooting and added 12 rebounds. Seth Curry also made an impact by scoring the opening 12 points for Charlotte. On the other side, Cody White led Chicago with 23 points and came close to achieving his first NBA triple-double.
The turning point came as Charlotte allowed just 15 points in the first quarter but then saw their lead slip away after seven second-quarter three-pointers from Chicago. A crucial moment occurred when Bridges tied the game with a three-pointer at the end of regulation. However, Chicago quickly took control in overtime with an 8-0 run.
This loss marks the Hornets' tenth consecutive home defeat, a streak they haven't experienced since the 2012-13 season. The Bulls capitalized on second-chance opportunities despite being one of the league's worst offensive rebounding teams.
Hornets Head Coach Charles Lee acknowledged his team's efforts but pointed out areas for improvement: “I think the guys did a heck of a job of battling, competing all game... Some of our shift activity or awareness to the three-point line could’ve been a little bit tighter.”
Looking ahead, Charlotte will begin a two-game road trip against Detroit Pistons on January 3rd.
