Senator Thom Tillis, along with 43 Republican Senate colleagues, has introduced the Constitutional Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act. This legislation aims to allow individuals with concealed carry privileges in their home state to exercise those rights in any other state that permits concealed carry, while adhering to the laws of each respective state.
"As a strong supporter of the Second Amendment, I’m proud to introduce the Constitutional Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act," stated Senator Tillis. "This commonsense legislation ensures that law-abiding citizens can exercise their constitutional right to carry concealed firearms across state lines while respecting the laws of each state. This legislation is a critical step in protecting the right of self-defense for Americans, no matter where they travel."
The bill proposes that individuals with concealed carry permits can use them similarly to how drivers' licenses are used when traveling between states. While permit holders can carry in another state, they must comply with that state's specific regulations and laws regarding concealed carry. The legislation emphasizes respect for state sovereignty by not imposing a national standard for concealed carry.
The National Rifle Association (NRA), the National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF), and Gun Owners of America (GOA) have expressed their support for this proposed legislation.
