Today, Senator Thom Tillis issued a statement regarding President Donald J. Trump's visit to Western North Carolina. The President's trip was aimed at assessing the damage caused by Helene.
"President Trump’s visit is a welcome display of leadership as Western North Carolina recovers from damage and devastation left behind by Helene," said Tillis. Although he could not attend due to Senate commitments, Tillis expressed gratitude for Trump's efforts to observe the situation personally.
Tillis highlighted the ongoing communication with both President Trump and Vice President Vance during the transition period. "That is a testament to how high of a priority the recovery and rebuilding process is for them," he stated.
The Senator criticized FEMA's response under President Biden, stating that their slow action put families at risk in cold conditions. He emphasized that changes are expected with Trump's administration. "Things will be changing under President Trump, and his visit shows his Administration is committed to the people of Western North Carolina as he promised during the campaign."
Tillis concluded by expressing his intent to collaborate with the Trump-Vance Administration to ensure federal resources are utilized effectively and bureaucratic obstacles are removed.
