Senator Thom Tillis, along with several colleagues, has reintroduced the Justice for Victims of Sanctuary Cities Act. This legislation aims to address sanctuary policies and provide justice for victims and their families who have been affected by these jurisdictions.

Senator Tillis expressed concern over local jurisdictions in North Carolina and other areas that ignore ICE agents' lawful requests, releasing dangerous criminals back into communities. "I am committed to working with President Trump to end illegal immigration and fight sanctuary cities that prioritize reckless, lawless policies over public safety," he stated.

Dr. Cassidy highlighted issues from previous administrations regarding border security, stating, "We saw what happened when the last administration refused to secure the border and when cities harbored criminals illegally."

Senator Cramer emphasized accountability for sanctuary cities: "A family harmed by an illegal immigrant should have the right to sue city leaders who refused to comply with federal law enforcement."

Senator Britt described sanctuary cities as providing safe havens for criminal illegal aliens at the expense of American citizens' safety. She mentioned that Senate Republicans are working with the Trump Administration on this issue.

Senator Budd noted the importance of enforcing immigration laws: "When laws are not enforced, preventable tragedies occur. That has to stop."

Senator Cruz remarked on Texas's experience with border issues and stressed holding cities accountable: "This bill sends a clear message: cities that prioritize politics over public safety will face consequences."

In the House of Representatives, Rep. Chuck Edwards is introducing companion legislation. He pointed out that nearly 650,000 criminal illegal immigrants are shielded by sanctuary cities from facing consequences.

The Justice for Victims of Sanctuary Cities Act allows individuals or their families affected by crimes such as murder or rape to take legal action against states or political subdivisions if they declined lawful detainer requests from Homeland Security. The act also requires states or subdivisions to waive immunity for certain federal grants.
