Today, Senator Thom Tillis introduced Kash Patel at his nomination hearing before the Senate Judiciary Committee for the position of Director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). Senator Tillis expressed confidence in Patel's qualifications and commitment to justice.
"Kash possesses significant expertise and an ironclad commitment to justice," stated Tillis. "I have concluded he’s an outstanding choice to lead the FBI."
Patel, whose parents are Indian immigrants, was raised in New York City. He pursued a career in law after earning degrees from the University of Richmond and Pace University School of Law. His early work as a public defender in Florida included leading over 60 jury trials.
In 2015, Patel gained attention for successfully defending Jose Buitrago in a high-profile drug case, which influenced his views on prosecutorial misconduct. His career continued with senior roles on the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence and within national security agencies.
Since leaving government service post-2020, Patel has written extensively on national security issues. Despite some skepticism about his candidacy, Tillis stands firm in his support.
"In my 10 years in the Senate... I stand by those positions today and my position to support Kash Patel," said Tillis.
The nomination process continues as Patel meets with members of Congress for further discussions.
