James Pearce's journey from the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Youth Football League to the NFL Combine highlights his lifelong dedication to football. Beginning at age six with the C-Meck Raiders, Pearce knew early on that football would be a significant part of his life. "It just brought me peace, brought me a lot. What it taught me, the life lessons," he reflected during an interview at the NFL Combine.

Pearce played high school football at Julius L. Chambers High School and later joined the Tennessee Volunteers, choosing to develop his skills in the SEC despite offers closer to home. "I heard the SEC was the JV of the league (the NFL)," he said.

During his three years at Tennessee, Pearce recorded 70 tackles, 19 sacks (including 9.5 as a sophomore), three forced fumbles, an interception, and a touchdown. Now preparing for the NFL draft amidst a strong class of pass-rushers, Pearce is focused on proving himself through combine workouts and team visits.

He described himself as "Fast, athletic, IQ strong, IQ high," emphasizing his ability to make plays on the field despite perceptions about his physical stature: "People don't think I got (power)," Pearce noted but insisted there's power behind his speed.

The Carolina Panthers are keeping an eye on Pearce's development. Head coach Dave Canales remarked on Pearce's potential: "A dynamic player, great size, balanced athlete, motor... For him to be this close to home... somebody that we're going to definitely look at closely."

While open to all teams and opportunities in Indianapolis, Pearce reminisced about growing up watching Panthers players like Luke Kuechly and Cam Newton. He also admired Lawrence Taylor from UNC: "I love LT," praised Pearce.

As he prepares for potential entry into the NFL—whether with his hometown Panthers or another team—Pearce remains confident in his abilities: "I probably never lost that swag," he stated, eager to demonstrate why he's among the best defensive players in this year's draft.
