Charlotte FC is set to face Atlanta United in their home opener on Saturday at 2 p.m. The match, which will be broadcast on FOX, holds significant early-season implications for both teams.

Atlanta United recently secured a 3-2 victory over CF Montreal in their home opener. In contrast, Charlotte FC managed a draw against Seattle after a lackluster performance. Despite these differing outcomes, rivalry matches often defy expectations as both teams aim to secure three points.

Dean Smith and his team expressed dissatisfaction with their showing in Seattle, citing insufficient possession and pressing. While earning an away point is commendable, the team aims to demonstrate improved performance to both the league and their fans. A more dynamic attack is essential, starting with increased midfield possession. Charlotte struggled against Seattle's press in the defending third, leading to reliance on long balls from the backline. Finding space in the midfield and controlling tempo will be crucial for creating attacking opportunities. Pep Biel's creativity showed promise in Seattle, and his contribution will be vital on Saturday. Wilfried Zaha's potential debut could further enhance Charlotte's offensive capabilities.

Atlanta's defense showed vulnerability during their opening match's second half when Montreal achieved a total team xG of 3.5 after halftime adjustments. Charlotte must capitalize by being dynamic and pressing forward.

In winter transfers, Atlanta acquired Latte Lath from Middlesbrough for an MLS record fee. Lath scored two goals in his debut last week. To succeed against Atlanta, Charlotte must focus on neutralizing Lath's threat inside the box.

"Win your home matches," emphasizes the importance of securing victories at home to make playoffs. This first home test against an Eastern Conference rival has one objective: "Protect the Fortress." Fans are encouraged to create an intimidating atmosphere while players channel that energy into strong performances throughout the match.

The all-time series between these teams stands at 3-0-3, with no team dominating at home—an unusual occurrence in derby matches. Charlotte aims to secure its first home win against Atlanta since April 2022.

Next week, Charlotte FC travels to Ft. Lauderdale for a matchup against Inter Miami featuring Lionel Messi and company.
