The Carolina Panthers have reached an agreement with punter Sam Martin, formerly of the Buffalo Bills. The announcement was made on Tuesday, confirming that the team has secured a new player for their special teams unit.
Sam Martin, who is 35 years old, demonstrated his skills last season by averaging 46.7 yards per punt and successfully placing 25 punts inside the opponent's 20-yard line. Martin is an alumnus of Appalachian State University and has previously played for both the Detroit Lions and the Cleveland Browns in his NFL career. He was initially drafted in the fifth round.
This move comes as Johnny Hekker, the Panthers' incumbent punter, enters free agency. As a result, long snapper JJ Jansen will be collaborating with a new teammate on special teams this season.
