Taylor Moton, the Carolina Panthers’ longest-tenured offensive player, has signed a two-year contract extension that will keep him with the team through the 2027 season. The extension follows previous contract negotiations in which Moton was franchise-tagged and later signed a four-year deal after his rookie contract.

Moton said this latest agreement holds special significance for him. “It means that I get to finish my career out here, where I started,” Moton said. “I love it here. This has been home, obviously, and I just thank this organization so much and Dan (Morgan) for making it happen to help me finish. I started here, helped be part of the change of the winning culture, and just be here to help change the winning culture.”

He added: “I’ve seen so many staff, personnel, players, coaches, I see how much effort everyone puts into making this thing go, and, you know, it’s important that I see them get the fruits of all the labor. I feel like the city, all these people, we all deserve to win here. So it’s something that I take very personally and something that’s very important to me, so we’ll see that happen.”

The Panthers announced Moton’s new deal shortly after their final preseason game. He described receiving news of his extension as a memorable moment filled with messages from friends and family. “It was a crazy day for sure,” he said.

Earlier in training camp, Moton had reflected on what it would mean if this season were his last with Carolina. That reflection led to an emotional response as he considered his years with the organization. “I just really wasn’t ready for that, and you know, I guess it’s a lot of emotions over the years that have hit me, and just the thought that it could be really my last year,” he explained.

Negotiations between Moton’s representatives and the Panthers began soon after those initial thoughts surfaced. He emphasized his desire to contribute to future team success: “I want to do everything I can to help this team get back to the playoffs and back to the Super Bowl… What can I control about that part of it… so I just have habits of being the best I can be for the rest of the team… that’s again, all I can control in that and do everything I can to help anyone else along the way I can help with that.”

Since earning a starting role in 2018, Moton has started every game for six consecutive seasons before missing three games last year due to injury—his first absences since becoming a starter. Over his career he has played in 130 games (including playoffs), starting 113.

Originally from Michigan and drafted by Carolina in 2017’s second round out of Western Michigan University, Moton also has strong family ties in North Carolina; much of his mother’s side lives nearby in Gastonia.

“So my whole mother’s side of the family is actually from Gastonia,” he said. “It’s actually crazy how much family I have here aunts, uncles, cousins… I’ve gotten so close to them over the years being here and I’ve always felt the love and support from them…”

Moton also cited stability within Carolina’s offensive line as an important factor in his decision to stay: four out of five starters are under contract for at least two more seasons.

“It’s a blessing and I love the guys in the room,” expressed Moton. “I’m so fired up that I’m going to continue to be able to work with them… phenomenal coaches in the building…”

He noted how rare it is for an NFL player’s entire career—potentially spanning more than ten years—to occur with one team.

“One of the most beautiful things about football… it’s the ultimate team sport. It takes all of us going in the right direction to succeed,” Moton said.

“So (being highly rated) is something that I… take pride in but ultimately I’m here to help this team win… Whatever it takes… I’m very happy to be here. Love all you guys, love the city. This is a blessing…”

With this extension secured before entering free agency or considering other teams—a move not always common among NFL veterans—Moton looks set on ending his playing days where they began.
