The Carolina Panthers will be without three starters in their preseason finale, including two players whose absences were anticipated. While all 90 players are eligible to participate in preseason games, the team has listed eight individuals as not expected to play.
Among those sidelined are defensive lineman Derrick Brown and cornerback Jaycee Horn. Brown continues his recovery from a knee injury sustained last year, though the current limitation is related to monitoring his practice repetitions rather than the previous injury. He participated fully in practice on Tuesday but did not take part in the joint session with the Cleveland Browns.
Horn’s absence follows a car accident on Wednesday morning that required stitches in his left hand. He was also absent from practice against the Browns.
Left guard Damien Lewis is a new addition to the list after leaving joint workouts with the Browns midway through and will not be available for tonight’s game.
Rookie Corey Thornton is set to start in place of Horn, Bobby Brown III will step in for Derrick Brown, and Ja’Tyre Carter will replace Lewis at left guard.
Other players not expected to play include wide receiver Hunter Renfrow, cornerback Akayleb Evans, linebacker Claudin Cherelus, guard Chandler Zavala, and defensive end LaBryan Ray.
“Brown is still working his way back from last year’s knee injury, but that isn’t what’s holding him back, as they monitor his reps. He practiced fully on Tuesday, but was held out of the joint practice with the Browns.”
“Horn was involved in a car accident on Wednesday morning and needed a few stitches in his left hand. He didn’t practice against the Browns.”
“Left guard Damien Lewis was the new name on the list, as he came out of the joint workouts with the Browns midway through, and won’t be in uniform.”
Rookie Corey Thornton will start for Horn; Bobby Brown III for Derrick Brown; and Ja’Tyre Carter for Lewis.
