The incoming police chief of Mount Holly said he’s looking forward to his new job, especially when it comes to building ties with the community.

“I look forward to strengthening the bonds that already exist between my community and the Mount Holly Police Department, and, as chief of police, I will also strive to build new ones,” Brian Reagan told WBTV in a recent report. “I want to thank everyone for this opportunity, and I look forward to working with you all to keep Mount Holly safe and beautiful.”

Reagan takes the helm Aug. 1, after serving as deputy police chief for eight years, according to the report. He has 21 years of service with the city and has been a resident for more than 20 years.

Reagan will replace Police Chief Don Roper, who will retire July 31, the report stated.

“We are excited that Brian Reagan is stepping into this role as chief of police for our city,” Mayor Bryan Hough, said in the report. “He has a significant amount of experience, a passion for service, and a clear vision on how to support his department while also supporting the community.”

Reagan’s resume includes experience as a patrol officer, K-9 handler, patrol sergeant and detective and deputy chief. He attended Gaston College and Western Carolina University. Reagan also earned intermediate and advanced law enforcement certificates from the North Carolina Department of Justice.
