City of Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department issued the following announcement on Dec. 28.

Rest in Peace Officer Dean Lauber. He passed away earlier this month at the age of 52 leaving behind his wife and three kids.

Today the Lauber family and CMPD honored his memory with a memorial service at First Baptist Church.

It was attended by dozens of officers and the CMPD Command Staff.

Officer Lauber served CMPD for 21 years and was a leader in the department, setting the standard for other officers.

He was one of the best patrol training officers, training more than half of the Independence Division.

His legacy will live on and we are forever grateful for his service.
