Arlissa Eason, the Deputy Clerk for Mecklenburg County's Board of County Commissioners, was officially sworn into her role on March 25. The ceremony ensures she is authorized to perform the clerk's duties when the Clerk to the Board, Kristine Smith, is unavailable. The oath was administered by Smith during a full meeting of the County Commissioners. Eason, in her role since 2022, took the oath with her right hand raised and her left hand on a Bible held by her mother.

The office of the Clerk to the Board in Mecklenburg County is vital for ensuring government transparency and accessibility for residents. Responsibilities include providing official notices of Board meetings, recording minutes and official actions, maintaining ordinances, safeguarding the County seal, preparing agendas, and assisting the public during meetings. The office also handles appointments for advisory boards, archives permanent records, administers oaths of office, and publishes public notices.

Kristine Smith remarked during the ceremony about the significance of these duties and Eason’s readiness to assume them as needed. The office aims to support transparent engagement between the government and county residents.
