Congresswoman Alma Adams (NC-12) has invited Charlotte City Council Member Dimple Ajmera to join her as her guest at an address to the United States Congress by Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi on Thursday, June 22 on the floor of the United States House of Representatives.
“Prime Minister Modi’s state visit is indicative of the close partnership between the United States and India, and the many cultural and personal ties between our countries,” said Congresswoman Adams. “I’m honored to be joined for the address by Councilwoman Ajmera, who has been a champion for Charlotte’s international community on the Charlotte City Council. This visit and this address are both about building relationships on important issues – from climate change to national security – so that we can work together to confront the challenges of the 21st century.”

Congresswoman Alma S. Adams, Ph.D. represents North Carolina's 12th Congressional District (Charlotte, Mecklenburg County, Cabarrus County). She is the longest-serving Democratic member of North Carolina's Congressional delegation.
Councilmember Dimple Ajmera is an at-large member of the Charlotte City Council. Ajmera became the first Indian American to be elected to the Charlotte City Council in 2017.
