No Swimming” Advisory Lifted For A Cove On Lake Norman Following A Discharge Of Sewage

Cornelius, NC – A NO SWIMMING advisory was lifted today for a cove on Lake Norman.

The “No Swimming” advisory was issued on June 11, 2023 after an estimated 8,000 gallons of sewage spilled into Lake Norman from a private sanitary sewer manhole located at 21328 Nautique Boulevard. The damage was caused by a private contractor while performing horizontal drilling. The pipe has been repaired and the discharge discontinued.

On June 16, 2023, laboratory results were received for water samples collected by Charlotte-Mecklenburg Storm Water Services’ staff revealing that bacteria counts are within safe limits; therefore, the NO SWIMMING advisory has been lifted.
