CHARLOTTE, N.C. (June 21, 2023) – The Charlotte Area Transit System (CATS) and Keep Charlotte Beautiful are announcing the launch of a new program, Adopt-A-Stop, to clean up bus stops in the Charlotte area.
Adopt-A-Stop is a free program available to all Charlotte residents, community organizations and businesses interested in giving back to their community while keeping Charlotte litter-free. Residents can adopt a local bus stop by agreeing to clean it at least twice a month over a two-year period.
“I’m consistently amazed by the effort volunteers contribute towards confronting litter in Charlotte,” said Jonathan Hill, executive director of Keep Charlotte Beautiful. “The Adopt-A-Stop program creates a new avenue for Charlotte residents to donate their time towards making Charlotte a cleaner, greener place to live.”
The program has initially launched as a pilot, with eligible stops available to adopt along Freedom Drive, Beatties Ford Road, West Boulevard and Wilkinson Boulevard. Participants can register to adopt a stop on the CLT Community platform.
“We appreciate our neighborhood partners, and this is a great opportunity for residents, organizations and local businesses to give back to their communities,” said Keith Sorensen, bus stop planner for CATS. “With the community’s help, we hope to expand the program to the more than 3,000 bus stops system-wide.”
For more information on the program and for any questions about applying or the cleanup process, email Keep Charlotte Beautiful at kcb@charlottenc.go or call 704.432.4802.
