The city scored an "A-" from Disclosure Insight Action (CDP), a leading authority on environmental reporting. CDP is widely regarded as the gold standard of environmental reporting, with its comprehensive corporate and city action database. The average score for cities in the United States is a "B," while the global average is a "C." Charlotte's exceptional performance demonstrates its dedication to sustainability.

Mayor Vi Lyles expressed her pride in the city's achievement, stating, "When City Council set the goal to become a global leader in environmental sustainability, we knew it was ambitious. This global recognition, for the second year in a row, shows that we are meeting that goal. As part of its ongoing efforts, the City of Charlotte has implemented the Strategic Energy Action Plan (SEAP). This plan focuses on reducing greenhouse gas emissions and community-wide carbon output, promoting a healthier and more sustainable community. To monitor the city's progress toward achieving these goals, an interactive SEAP dashboard has been developed.
