For the second year in a row, the City of Charlotte has been recognized for its outstanding sustainability efforts. The city scored an "A-" from Disclosure Insight Action (CDP), a leading authority on environmental reporting. This recognition places Charlotte at a leadership level, showcasing its commitment to best practice standards in adaptation and mitigation.

CDP is widely regarded as the gold standard of environmental reporting, with its comprehensive corporate and city action database. The average score for cities in the United States is a "B," while the global average is a "C." Charlotte's exceptional performance demonstrates its dedication to sustainability.

Mayor Vi Lyles expressed her pride in the city's achievement, stating, "When City Council set the goal to become a global leader in environmental sustainability, we knew it was ambitious. This global recognition, for the second year in a row, shows that we are meeting that goal. With continued community-wide partnership, we have what it takes to keep showing the world it is possible to balance economic growth and equity while preserving our natural resources."

The city's score is a result of various factors, including developed adaptation and mitigation plans, specific goals and targets, and a community-wide greenhouse gas emissions inventory. These components are crucial for effective climate action and demonstrate Charlotte's commitment to creating a sustainable future.

As part of its ongoing efforts, the City of Charlotte has implemented the Strategic Energy Action Plan (SEAP). This plan focuses on reducing greenhouse gas emissions and community-wide carbon output, promoting a healthier and more sustainable community. To monitor the city's progress toward achieving these goals, an interactive SEAP dashboard has been developed.

Charlotte's commitment to sustainability sets an example for cities around the world. By prioritizing environmental responsibility, the city is demonstrating that economic growth and equity can coexist with the preservation of natural resources. This recognition from CDP reaffirms Charlotte's position as a global leader in sustainability.

The City of Charlotte will continue to pursue its ambitious goals as outlined in the Sustainable and Resilient Charlotte by 2050 Resolution. Through collaboration and continued dedication, Charlotte aims to pave the way for a greener and more sustainable future.
