WASHINGTON, D.C. - Senator Thom Tillis (R-NC) has announced his plans to introduce the Constitutional Election Integrity Act, a bill that aims to ensure that state politicians and entities cannot disqualify presidential candidates from the ballot based on constitutional matters. The legislation seeks to clarify that the Supreme Court of the United States has the sole jurisdiction to decide claims arising from section 3 of the 14th Amendment of the Constitution.
In a statement, Senator Thom Tillis expressed his concerns about the misuse of the 14th Amendment for political purposes. He stated, "Regardless of whether you support or oppose former President Donald Trump, it is outrageous to see left-wing activists make a mockery of our political system by scheming with partisan state officials and pressuring judges to remove him from the ballot." Senator Tillis emphasized that it should be the American voters, not partisan activists, who decide the President of the United States.
The Constitutional Election Integrity Act aims to address this issue by ensuring that any constitutional challenges related to presidential candidate qualifications are to be decided solely by the U.S. Supreme Court. Additionally, the legislation includes provisions to withhold federal funding for election administration from states that misuse the 14th Amendment for political purposes.
Senator Tillis believes that this legislation would restore integrity to the election process and prevent the manipulation of constitutional matters for partisan gain. He stated, "The Constitutional Election Integrity Act would put any constitutional challenges in the sole place they belong: the U.S. Supreme Court."

By introducing this bill, Senator Tillis aims to safeguard the fairness and integrity of the presidential election process. The Constitutional Election Integrity Act seeks to prevent state politicians and entities from unilaterally disqualifying candidates based on constitutional grounds, ensuring that such matters are ultimately decided by the Supreme Court.
