Today, on March 18, 2024, marks the celebration of Global Recycling Day, and the City of Charlotte is urging everyone to join in the festivities. The theme for this year's Global Recycling Day is #RecyclingHeroes, encouraging individuals to acknowledge and celebrate the efforts of those who make a difference in recycling within their neighborhoods and communities.

In line with the spirit of the day, the City of Charlotte has shared valuable tips and reminders to empower individuals to become recycling heroes in their own right. The city emphasizes the importance of proper recycling practices and offers resources to support the community in their sustainability efforts.

One of the key messages shared by the city is the reminder that certain items like plastic bags, plastic film, and plastic wrap are not suitable for curbside recycling. Residents are encouraged to drop off these items at designated retail stores such as Harris Teeter and Walmart for proper recycling.

Moreover, individuals are encouraged to donate plastic and wire hangers to recycling clothing stores like Goodwill or return them to the cleaners for reuse. The city also provides information on full-service and self-service recycling locations for those who prefer to drop off recyclables themselves.

To further promote sustainable practices, the Environmental Protection Agency advises individuals to engage in activities such as composting, hosting yard sales to repurpose items, using reusable cleaning materials, and investing in a reusable water bottle to reduce plastic waste.

Residents are reminded that recyclables are collected every other week, and guidelines are provided on how to properly set out recycling carts for collection. The city emphasizes the importance of following these guidelines to ensure efficient recycling practices within the community.

As the City of Charlotte expresses its gratitude to residents for their dedication to sustainability and community improvement, they echo the sentiment of "thank you for your commitment to sustainability and the betterment of the community for all!"

Let's all come together to celebrate Global Recycling Day and strive towards a cleaner, greener future for Charlotte and beyond.
