People in Mecklenburg County have been affected by Hurricane Helene, prompting a call for community support to aid recovery efforts. Donations are being organized to assist those impacted by the flooding on Riverside Drive in Charlotte.

Residents can contribute direct donations to "CharMeck Responds" or send items to Calvary Baptist Church located at 2727 Mt Holly-Huntersville Road, Charlotte, NC 28214. The donation drive will be open from Wednesday, October 2, through Saturday, October 6, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Needed items include clean-up materials such as tarps and shovels, cleaning supplies like brooms and mops, bottled water, toiletries including shampoo and soap, new towels, and pet food.

For those wishing to support Western North Carolina neighbors financially, donations can be made to several organizations including the American Red Cross, Salvation Army, United Way of NC, NC Community Foundation, Manna Food Bank Asheville, Operation Airdrop, Samaritans Purse, and NC Emergency Management.

Physical donations for Western North Carolina can be sent to local YMCAs or the Mint Hill Fire Department at their location on Fairview Road in Mint Hill.

The community has expressed gratitude for the support and willingness of people to help during this challenging time.
