The Carolina Panthers have signed two new defensive players from other teams' practice squads. The moves were announced on Tuesday as part of a roster adjustment.
Cam Gill, an outside linebacker, returns to the Panthers after being released following an injury in training camp. He had recently been with the Lions practice squad. During his time with the Buccaneers, Gill recorded 2.5 sacks over 40 games and notably contributed a half-sack and forced fumble against Patrick Mahomes during Super Bowl LV.
In addition to Gill, the Panthers have added Jonathan Harris, a defensive end previously with the Dolphins practice squad. Harris is familiar with some of the current coaching staff due to his tenure with the Broncos from 2019 to 2023, where he appeared in 33 games over four seasons.
To accommodate these new signings, the Panthers have released outside linebacker Marquis Haynes. Haynes was drafted by the team in 2018 and has accumulated 14 sacks over his career spanning 73 games. Most recently, he played against Washington and recorded four tackles.
Additionally, linebacker Chandler Wooten and defensive tackle T.J. Smith were waived from the active roster. Changes also included releasing outside linebacker Shaq Lawson and defensive end Jayden Peevy from the practice squad while re-signing center Andrew Raym back to it.
