Major League Soccer has announced the finalists for the 2024 MLS Year-End Awards, which recognize top performers during the regular season. These awards involve representatives from 15 different MLS clubs, and winners will be revealed during the Audi 2024 MLS Cup Playoffs.
Charlotte FC's goalkeeper, Kristijan Kahlina, is a finalist for the 2024 MLS Goalkeeper of the Year award. He joins LAFC's Hugo Lloris and Patrick Schulte from Columbus Crew as nominees. Kahlina marked his 100th appearance with Charlotte FC on Decision Day by securing another clean sheet, adding to his season total of 12 and career total of 25 in MLS. He is tied with Lloris for the league lead in clean sheets and ranks third in total saves with 121. According to American Soccer Analysis’ Goals-xGoals metric, Kahlina achieved the second-best single season for a goalkeeper in MLS since 2013 with (-10.47).
This year has been significant for Kahlina, who recently signed a new contract with Charlotte FC on October 1st. This agreement extends his stay in Charlotte until 2026, with an option for 2027.
The annual awards' finalists were determined based on average votes from MLS club technical staff, first-team players, and select media members, each contributing equally to the results.
Other notable awards include Landon Donovan MLS MVP, MLS Defender of the Year, MLS Newcomer of the Year, and MLS Young Player of the Year. The AT&T MLS Goal of the Year and MLS Save of the Year will be decided through online voting at MLSsoccer.com. Voting is open until Monday, October 28.
Winners of the MLS Referee and Assistant Referee of the Year awards will be announced on October 28. The announcement date for the MLS Best XI presented by Continental Tire is yet to be confirmed.
