The Carolina Panthers faced a challenging game against the Denver Broncos, resulting in a 28-14 loss. The team's quarterback situation remains uncertain following Bryce Young's performance, which included both promising moments and missed opportunities.
Head Coach Dave Canales has yet to decide on the starting quarterback for the upcoming rematch against the New Orleans Saints. With Andy Dalton recovering from a sprained thumb, Canales stated, "We will look at all the information... We'll look at Andy's health over the next couple of days."
Young completed 24 out of 37 passes for 224 yards, with two touchdowns and two interceptions. His performance showed inconsistency as noted by Canales: "We look like a good offense on the first drive, and then we just go... Trying to find a rhythm." The team struggled with only 69 rushing yards.
Despite missing key players Diontae Johnson and Adam Thielen due to injuries, Young connected with rookies Xavier Legette and Jalen Coker for touchdowns. Young expressed his confidence in his teammates: "Everyone stepped up; obviously being without Diontae and being without Adam is tough."
In the second half, Young attempted more downfield plays but had limited success. His average pass attempt was lower compared to Dalton’s this season. Canales acknowledged Young's efforts: "I thought he had some excellent drives... I think he did a pretty good job of that today."
Young remained composed despite frustrations during the game. When asked about starting again, he deferred to the coaching staff: "I'm grateful to play... I trust the coaching staff; they're going to do what's best for the team."
The Panthers' decision on their quarterback will depend on Dalton's recovery and further evaluation by Canales.
