The Carolina Panthers faced another close defeat on Sunday, losing 22-16 to the Philadelphia Eagles. This marks their third consecutive narrow loss, following last-minute defeats to the Kansas City Chiefs and Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Despite the repeated pattern, the team remains determined to improve.
Panthers quarterback Bryce Young emphasized the need for growth: "There's no participation trophies, no consolation," he stated. He acknowledged that while they can identify positive aspects in their performance, it's crucial to build on them and continue improving.
The Panthers struggled against the Eagles' strong rushing game, allowing 209 yards on the ground and letting them convert 7-of-12 third downs. Offensively, Young threw his first interception in a month amidst several dropped passes and a missed extra point by Eddy Piñeiro.
Running back Chuba Hubbard surpassed 1,000 yards for the season for the first time in his career. He expressed confidence in their process: "We're just going to keep trust in the process of doing what we do," he said. Hubbard noted that many had underestimated their potential earlier in the year but believes they are making progress.
Veteran right guard Robert Hunt acknowledged frustration with repetitive conversations about being close but also saw signs of quality football within the team. "I know we're close," Hunt remarked. However, he stressed that being close is not enough; winning games is essential.
Cornerback Mike Jackson echoed this sentiment: "But being on the verge don't mean nothing until you actually push through." Veteran safety Jordan Fuller added that there's no secret to success other than hard work and focus.
Head coach Dave Canales refused to label these losses as moral victories. In his post-game press conference, he highlighted their need for consistency against top teams like the Eagles: "Against a really good team on the road at their place, just the margin of error is so tight."
Despite recent setbacks, players remain hopeful about overcoming challenges and achieving success soon.
