The Panthers faced a challenging game against the Cowboys on Sunday, falling 30-14 at Bank of America Stadium. Despite recent improvements, turnovers and mistakes proved costly for the team. The Panthers' performance was their weakest in over a month and a half.
After winning some games before their bye week and losing narrowly to playoff contenders, the Panthers (3-11) were beginning to feel confident. They were favored for the first time in 33 games but failed to capitalize on it, reminiscent of their 2022 loss to the Steelers.
Turnovers played a significant role in the defeat, with the Panthers giving up four that led to 10 points for Dallas. Bryce Young's fumble during a promising drive set an unfortunate tone early on. He fumbled twice more, threw two interceptions, and had another ball knocked loose by Micah Parsons.
Protection issues resurfaced as well; while they had only allowed 22 sacks over 13 games previously, Young was sacked six times by Dallas.
Penalties further hindered their efforts, including false starts by Robert Hunt and Adam Thielen and an unnecessary roughness penalty on Sam Franklin Jr. The defense also struggled, allowing 211 rushing yards.
Bryce Young managed to break a personal record with an impressive 83-yard touchdown pass to Jalen Coker in the second quarter, marking his longest career completion.
Injuries added to the challenges as Xavier Legette left with a groin injury after catching two passes for seven yards. The linebacker position was stretched thin when rookie Trevin Wallace was inactive due to a shoulder injury, Josey Jewell was briefly sidelined by league spotters, and Claudin Cherelus suffered an injury before returning later.
The Panthers will need to address these issues moving forward as they aim for improvement in upcoming games.
