When Panthers wide receiver Xavier Legette faced criticism for dropping a late pass in Philadelphia, he chose to address the issue by dedicating more time to practice. Despite initially withdrawing from social activities, including skipping a concert, Legette found support among teammates Chuba Hubbard and Tommy Tremble. The trio began using the Jugs machine after practice to catch extra passes.
"X is a professional, man," said Tremble about Legette's commitment. "He's trying to get better, and so seeing him out there trying to get better, at least 1 percent every day, man, we love that stuff."
Legette's dedication is evident not only in his actions but also in his attitude toward improving his game. Known for his cheerful personality off the field, he becomes serious when discussing his performance and development as a rookie player.
"I don't want to fall back to that," Legette said regarding struggles common among rookie receivers. "I mean, I feel like I should have did more than what I did."
The Panthers traded up to draft Legette in the first round with high expectations for his future contributions as a playmaker. He has shown potential this season with four touchdowns in the first nine weeks but remains focused on continuous improvement.
Veteran receivers coach Rob Moore praised Legette's work ethic: "It just tells you that he's willing to do the little things it takes to be as great as he can be."
Legette acknowledges learning valuable lessons during his rookie season, particularly about maintaining physical readiness: "I've got to really take care of my body," he noted.
Supported by experienced players like Adam Thielen and David Moore, Legette is gaining insights into sustaining a successful NFL career. His efforts have earned respect from teammates who recognize his professionalism and determination.
"Just how professional he became; he had to leave the rookie stage early," David Moore commented on Legette's growth over the season.
Hubbard and Tremble have noticed Legette's willingness to put in extra work alongside them: "That's him being a professional, man," Tremble remarked.
As Legette continues his journey in the league, both coaches and fellow players are taking note of his commitment and potential for success.
