Dave Canales, the offensive coordinator for the Panthers, is optimistic about the potential of his young team despite their ranking of 29th in the league last season. The only significant addition is free-agent running back Rico Dowdle, suggesting stability as a strategy to foster growth.

"There's so much growth potential because of the general age and youth of our group," Canales stated at the league's annual meeting in Palm Beach. The Panthers' offense boasts seven players aged 25 or younger, including key figures like quarterback Bryce Young, running back Chuba Hubbard, and left tackle Ikem Ekwonu.

Hubbard broke the 1,000-yard barrier last season, supported by veterans Adam Thielen and Andy Dalton. Canales emphasizes the importance of their run game: "It's identity, it's play style...if we're going to be a tough football team, it all starts with the run game."

The Panthers are banking on consistency by bringing back their offensive line and complementing it with seasoned players. Ekwonu is a focal point for future plans as general manager Dan Morgan seeks to extend his tenure, describing him as a "dominant run blocker."

Veteran Taylor Moton has also performed well, allowing just one sack last season despite battling injuries. "He's been steady Eddie here for a long time, so we're counting on him doing that again," Canales said.

Rico Dowdle's addition to the backfield strengthens their running game, with Dowdle and Hubbard both coming off career-high seasons. This foundation allows for further development of the passing game, in which rookies Xavier Legette, Jalen Coker, and Ja'Tavion Sanders played prominent roles last year.

Bryce Young, after returning mid-season, demonstrated leadership with six game-winning drives. "I think Bryce does well in high-stakes situations," Canales observed, appreciating Young's resilience and influence on the team.

Canales is focused on "second-half Panthers" growth that sees the team improving collectively. He, Morgan, and executive VP of football operations Brandt Tilis are prioritizing defensive improvement during the offseason but remain committed to developing their existing offensive roster.

"I love the guys we have and I'm excited to see the growth and the steps," Canales concluded, emphasizing the discipline required in building for the future.
