Robert Hunt, a player known for his outgoing personality and strong presence on the field, received two honors recently. He was named the 2024 PFWA Tom Berry Good Guy Award winner and also recognized as a second alternate to the Pro Bowl at his position. The announcement was made on Thursday.
The Good Guy Award is given by the Carolina chapter of the Pro Football Writers Association to honor a Panthers player who has been most helpful to the media. Hunt joins DJ Chark and Teddy Bridgewater as one of only three players to win this award in their first season with the Panthers. The award is named after Tom Berry, a longtime columnist and Panthers beat writer for the High Point (N.C.) Enterprise.
Regarding his Pro Bowl recognition, Hunt expressed appreciation but viewed it more as motivation for improvement next year. "I can't say that was snubbed. I just know I can be better," he stated. He acknowledged progress from being a fifth-alternate last season while playing with the Dolphins.
Hunt has played every offensive snap this season, allowing only 2.5 sacks and maintaining a 6.8 quarterback pressure percentage with just one holding call.
Reflecting on his journey from rural Louisiana, Hunt shared gratitude for his current success: "Man, I felt like I done lived three different lives in my life," he said, expressing thankfulness for not having to endure poverty anymore and ensuring a better future for his son.
In another development, Hunt decided to wear a Guardian Cap during Sunday's game against the Falcons—a choice no other Panthers player has made this season—after waking up one morning wanting to try it out.
Meanwhile, Tracy Smith's press conference took an unexpected turn when discussing birds' migratory patterns in Northern California but eventually returned focus on Johnny Hekker's selection as an alternate for the Pro Bowl. Smith praised Hekker's performance this season: "Nice honor for him," Smith remarked about Hekker's reputation and achievements.
Lastly, Bernie Parmalee faced challenges managing running back changes due to injuries ahead of Sunday's game against Atlanta Falcons but showed resilience leading preparations successfully according to Brad Idzik: "Miles hit ground running... good testament preparation Bernie brings those guys room."
