The Carolina Panthers' cornerback Mike Jackson reflected on a pivotal moment in his 2024 season when teammate Jaycee Horn shifted his perspective during a game preparation. Horn's comment, "I don't worry about the receiver because they got to worry about me," resonated with Jackson and influenced his approach to the game.

Jackson shared this story as he and his teammates wrapped up their season, one that saw the Panthers' defense struggle historically but also highlighted Jackson's performance. Acquired from the Seattle Seahawks in exchange for linebacker Michael Barrett, Jackson quickly adapted to the team's defense, earning praise from defensive coordinator Ejiro Evero for his intelligence and work habits.

"Very intelligent player, great work habits… I've been so pleased with him and so happy for how he's played," Evero stated.

Jackson's tenacity was evident throughout the season as he became a full-time starter, finishing with 76 tackles, three tackles for loss, and two interceptions. Offensive coordinator Dave Canales acknowledged Jackson's contributions in key games against teams like the Saints and Cardinals.

"He certainly has come up big for us in a few games," Canales said.

Jackson's dedication extended beyond physical play; he was tied for eighth-highest percentage of defensive snaps played at 99 percent. His commitment impressed coaches like Evero who noted Jackson's early morning film sessions with passing game coordinator coach Cooley.

"He's exactly the type of people that we want to be here," Canales remarked regarding Jackson’s professionalism.

The synergy between Jackson and Horn was crucial to their success as a cornerback duo. They combined for 30 passes defended, leading all NFL tandems in this category. Their partnership allowed Horn to earn Pro Bowl honors despite playing fewer games due to injuries.

As a free agent now, Jackson expressed hope of returning to Carolina while acknowledging the business aspect of NFL decisions: "Yeah, for sure, I love it here... but I also understand... it's no feelings involved."

Looking ahead, Jackson is optimistic about continuing alongside Horn and contributing further to an evolving Panthers defense: "I definitely feel like it's something that we could even do more."
