Making the Pro Bowl is a significant achievement for NFL players, marking recognition of their talent and effort. Jaycee Horn and Robert Hunt of the Carolina Panthers have reached this milestone, reflecting both personal success and progress for their team. As they leave Orlando after the Pro Bowl, they will join many in focusing on the upcoming Super Bowl between the Kansas City Chiefs and the Philadelphia Eagles.
Horn expresses a desire to watch the Super Bowl as a fan but admits that his analytical mind often takes over. "It's kind of hard not to watch it through a film junky lens," he said. Despite wanting to relax, he will be observing how these top teams compete, knowing that his Panthers are close to reaching their level.
Reflecting on past games, Horn noted, "I guess we were considered one of the worst teams at that point in the season...but you know, obviously, the game didn't play out like it was best versus worst team." This sentiment highlights the unpredictable nature of football and emphasizes that every game requires full effort.
The Panthers narrowly lost to both Super Bowl contenders during the 2024 season. A 30-27 defeat against Kansas City included critical plays by Patrick Mahomes and Kareem Hunt that ultimately led to a last-second field goal. Offensive guard Robert Hunt remarked on these near wins: "But at the end of the day, you got to win those games."
Another close match came two weeks later against Philadelphia. With seconds remaining, an incomplete pass dashed their hopes for victory. Horn commented on this experience: "It's just shows how small the margin of error is in the NFL."
Both Horn and Hunt emphasize learning how to win as crucial for future success. Horn stated, "Finishing, details, all that stuff matters." Coach Canales has stressed finishing as key throughout their season.
Hunt echoed this need for growth: "I mean, we got to learn how to win...the Chiefs know how to win games like that. Philly knows how to win games like that." Their experiences suggest progress for Carolina as they aim to convert narrow losses into victories.
As they prepare to watch this year's Super Bowl, whether with enjoyment or analysis in mind, Horn and Hunt will be looking at what it takes for their team to advance further next season.
