Charlotte FC has signed defender Mikah Thomas to his first professional contract, which will last through 2026. The club retains options to extend the contract through 2027, 2028, and 2029. This announcement comes after Thomas had a successful preseason with the team.
The club traded up to secure the ninth overall pick in the 2025 MLS SuperDraft to select Thomas from the University of Connecticut. During the preseason, he participated in training sessions held in Miami and at the Coachella Valley Invitational.
"We’re excited to sign Mikah to his first professional contract after an impressive preseason with the First Team," stated General Manager Zoran Krneta. "Mikah has demonstrated a tremendous work ethic and has proven to us that he is ready for professional football. His profile adds versatility and depth to our backline, and we are excited to introduce him into our player pathway which has proven successful in developing the Club’s MLS SuperDraft selections."
Thomas, who is about to turn 20 years old, played two collegiate seasons with the University of Connecticut Huskies. During his time there, he made 26 appearances, scored one goal, and provided three assists. He also gained experience playing professionally when he debuted in the U.S. Open Cup with Jacksonville Armada's U-23 team in 2023. In that match against Miami United FC, Thomas scored Jacksonville's only goal during regulation time before they won 9-8 on penalties.
