The Panthers have secured continuity in their offensive line by reaching an agreement with center Austin Corbett. This decision comes ahead of the opening of free agency negotiations, set for Monday. The 29-year-old lineman was a key player before an injury cut his season short.
Corbett's return is paired with backup center Cade Mays, who remains on the roster as a restricted free agent. The team is addressing depth and stability following last year's struggles that resulted in 65 sacks.
Corbett transitioned from guard to center last preseason, contributing to a stronger offensive front alongside newcomers Robert Hunt and Damien Lewis. Hunt openly supported Corbett's return during a postseason interview.
"Austin, Austin, I've got a question for you for one second," Hunt stated while surrounded by reporters. "You had a really good year. Obviously, it got cut short because of injury. I think a lot of guys love playing with you and would love to have you back."
Corbett responded positively to Hunt's comments, expressing his appreciation for the team environment: "Man, I just love it here," he said.
Hunt continued his praise: "We think you did really well...I love playing by you. I think you're the center."
With full recovery from his biceps injury, Corbett has been preparing at the team's facilities and is expected to be ready for upcoming training sessions.
