Everyone seems eager for the Panthers and quarterback Bryce Young to find a standout receiver. However, Panthers head coach Dave Canales believes that player may already be on their roster. The Panthers had previously explored options with Diontae Johnson and DK Metcalf. However, Canales is confident with their current lineup, particularly the potential shown by Xavier Legette.
"We got that guy. I think it's Xavier," Canales stated at the league's annual meeting. He emphasized the importance of developing Legette. "You got a guy who's 6-2 1/2, 225 pounds, and runs 4.3. And he's a playmaker," Canales added.
The Panthers traded up to select Legette at the end of the first round last year. As a rookie, Legette made 49 receptions for 497 yards and four touchdowns. Canales compared his platform to that of former Seahawk DK Metcalf, highlighting the room for growth.
During the season, Legette joined teammates Chuba Hubbard and Tommy Tremble on the Jugs machine for practice, following a drop against the Eagles. Canales praised Legette's work ethic: "Xavier's doing a bunch of stuff; He's an overworker, and that's a good thing."
Legette played 16 games last season, overcoming injuries. He underwent foot surgery and is now rehabbing at the Panthers' facility. Discussing Legette's efforts, Canales remarked on the challenges faced: "He had the foot. He's a rookie. It's a long season. I think it's all those things."
