Mecklenburg County Park and Recreation is set to celebrate the reopening of the Mallard Creek Recreation Center on May 3. Identified improvements include a new main entry lobby, restrooms, a multipurpose room, and updated systems for the building. The grounds now also feature a playground, walking track, and multipurpose fields.

The center, which spans 20,000 square feet, was originally built in 1997. Funding for the renovation formed part of a $250 million bond approved in 2008 by Mecklenburg County voters. These funds were directed towards constructing new park and recreation facilities and enhancing existing ones. Mallard Creek Recreation Center's improvements were included in the Fiscal Year 2023 Mecklenburg County budget as a capital project.

Renovation work commenced in December 2023 and was concluded in early 2025. With the center now open, facilities such as open gymnasium hours, fitness areas, and multipurpose rooms are accessible to guests. The schedule of programs will expand further in the spring and summer.

Fitness memberships can be obtained by contacting the center, where staff can assist guests in finding suitable membership passes. The MeckPass offers value for families, youth, adults, and seniors seeking fitness and aquatic amenities across Mecklenburg County.

The community celebration will take place at 2530 Johnston Oehler Road in Charlotte from noon to 3 p.m. on May 3. Visitors can expect games, activities, bouncy houses, live music, and food trucks.
