Mecklenburg County said it is ready to be a part of Gov. Roy Cooper’s Phase 2 reopening of North Carolina amid COVID-19.
Mecklenburg County Health Director Gibbie Harris told journalists at a recent press briefing that trends for positive cases in the county are stable and the increase in cases is due to more testing, WCNC reported in mid-May.
“There's no data at this point in time to support we've already peaked,” Harris said, according to WCNC. “The stay-at-home order has worked.”
The state entered Phase 2 of its reopening plan on May 22, WCNC reported. Under Phase 2, dine-in restaurants, personal care businesses, and pools can operate at 50% capacity while following social distancing and cleaning requirements. Retail businesses that opened in Phase 1 must continue to operate at 50% capacity. Childcare facilities and camps are also allowed to reopen.
Phase 2 is expected to last at least five weeks, WCNC reported.
